“Had a great stay! The staff was great and very helpful, especially Jean Pierre. However I think the food subject was not to clear in the booking nor in the messages from the host. Stated breakfast and lunch was included but did not state you needed to purchase the food in advance. Overall we enjoyed our time and location.”

James

“This place was a dream. From the fresh coconut water on arrival, I knew we were going to have a memorable experience. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Fresh meals prepped everyday was a great way to really soak in every moment at the property. I’ve never stayed at such an interesting and hand crafted property. Every nook and cranny was intentional from the plants to the decor. Each bungalow offered something unique and charming. The beds were insanely comfortable, or if you prefer outdoor sleeping, hammocks were hanging outside of each bedroom. I absolutely loved the outside showers. I’ve never experienced that before but there’s something special about bathing under moonlight with plants surrounding you that makes for a magical experience. The nearby beach was a pleasant walk (about 10-15 minutes) and was spectacular. It was very private & peaceful with crystal clear water and clean sand. I would 100% revisit Casa Taina and recommend it to friends & family!”

Dennis

“This place was everything we expected and more. such a beautiful and serene environment. we felt safe and at home. Michael the host was quick to respond to any questions we had, he was very attentive and accommodating. As well as his staff, Nati and Leo which made us feel so welcomed. just an all around great experience, I give it an A++ in every aspect and we will be returning. one last thing we were all in agreement at how affordable it was. Such a beautiful country and what a gem we found in it!”

Why This Spot in the Dominican Republic is Special

I’ve crashed on sofas across the world, but this corner of the DR keeps pulling me back. Nagua isn’t full of tourists taking selfies – it’s the real Dominican Republic where locals still say hello and nobody rushes.

The beaches? Clear blue water that stays warm all year – about 80-84°F even in winter. Just a 5-minute walk from the property, you’ll find Playa Miguelito, where you might be the only person there all day. The sand feels just right between your toes, and the water gets deep slowly, making it perfect for swimming.

Want more action? Pinal de Baoba is 5 minutes by car with food stands serving fresh fish and cold beers. On Fridays, local people sometimes play music as the sun sets.

What I love most is how this place sits right between adventure and total relaxation. One day you’re hiking through forests where the air feels fresh and full of life, the next you’re laying in a
hammock watching birds dive for fish.

Nearby you can find waterfalls (45 minutes away), caves (a day trip by boat), and secret swimming spots that tourists don’t know about.

The Best Things About Nagua

This isn’t like Punta Cana with its big resorts and gift shops. Nagua shows you the real
Dominican Republic – where fishermen bring their catch to local restaurants, where music plays
from open windows, and where life moves at a slower pace.

A Day at Casa Taina Looks Like

Afternoons are yours to enjoy. Float in the pool with a book, watching birds fly overhead. Walk to
the nearby beach collecting shells. Or take a quick drive to nearby waterfalls – Jean Pierre can
find a local guide who knows the best swimming spots.

As the sun sets, everything at Casa Taina glows golden. It’s the perfect light for vacation photos
you’ll actually want to share.

Dinner can be under the stars with ocean sounds as your background music. The chef can
make dinner for an extra fee, or you can try local restaurants – there’s a great seafood place
about 10 minutes away where they serve whatever was caught that day. If you like cooking, the
kitchen has everything you need, even a blender for fresh piƱa coladas.

Later, you can stargaze from your hammock. With no city lights around, the night sky is amazing
– you can see the Milky Way spread across the dark sky like diamonds. Casa Taina has some
of the best stargazing in the Caribbean

The Wooden Beavers

Joe Pinecone

Joe was raised in Canada by Alaskan parents and later moved to Utah in order to pursue a career in woodworking. Being disappointed with the quality of modern furniture in general,Ā he founded Wooden Beavers.

James Woodchip

James was a former biker, but wanted to do more with his life. In 2012, he moved from Florida to Utah. He met Joe at a cafe and soon joined Wooden Beavers. James also works with kids and teaches everything he knows about wood and nature.

Jack Buzzsaw

When Jack was born, he was left in the cold by his parents. What could have been a tragic story, turned positive as a Grizzly Bear couple took care of him and taught him all he knows about nature.Ā His skills are the best, but he doesn’t say a lot.

Latest Project

The new owners of Idaho Tea & Coffee House wanted to give their place a complete makeover. We turned this boring looking cafe into a remarkable place. Both inside and outside, we built new furniture madeĀ to last heavy use and bad weather. All the wood used for the project was delivered from a nearby sawmill.
